It was a mistake to come – and it was a mistake to stand upon this high place peering into the darkness – for the Nightmare is a creature of black Hell, where the shadow makes earthly night seem as day.

Even as Jack makes to leap from his high perch, the Nightmare shrieks again, alerting the herd of Carnivorous Horses it holds in thrall.

Hooves clatter against stone, and huge shapes begin to drop from the broken architecture overhead. Even as Jack flees, he knows he cannot outrun a galloping horse, he cannot withstand the flames of Hell itself, he cannot deny that this is . . .
